Symbols of the Eucharist

  • Bread: Bread is a symbol of life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Fire/light: Fire is a symbol of God’s cleansing presence in the Old Testament.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Water: The water symbolises baptism and are now following as Christians.

 

 

 

 

 

  • White Garment: People who had just been baptised were clothed in white, the white garment is a symbol of cleansing and starting a whole new life of grace.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Laying on of Hands: Laying of the hands is a symbol of calling down the Holy spirit.

 

 

 

 

  • Wine: Wine symbolises joy and the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Oil: Oil is a symbol of a particular mission, priests are anointed for a mission and so are we, for example your mission is to be nice to someone today.
