Liturgical Colours and Seasons
The Liturgical colours are the different colours that the Priest wears on his cloak and the colours that are decorated around the church. These colours represent different seasons and special events that we celebrate. The colours used and what season they represent are:
-
Green represents ordinary time: Green is the colour that symbolises nature, growth, life and hope.
-
Purple or violet represents Lent and Advent: Purple is the colour that symbolises sorrow. Lent is a time of fasting, praying and almsgiving and a quiet time were we think and reflect.
-
White represents Christmas and Easter: Christmas and Easter are happy and joyful events, although you get presents and chocolate eggs it means a lot more then that. Christmas represents Jesus’s birth and Easter symbolises Jesus’s resurrection.
-
Red represents Pentecost: Red is the colour that symbolises blood and fire, the Priest wears a red cloak celebrations of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
-
Rose pink is a colour that is optional for the priest to wear, if they do decided to use it they have to wear it on the third day of advent and the 4th day of lent.
