Sights and Sounds of the Mass

Church/Cathedral Bells

The church bell or bell tower may be rung to call people to worship or pray. It may be rung to celebrate spcial or importent times of the year.

Liturgical Musicians

The liturgical musicians may be seen and head leading people in songs and hymns, and leading people in serious, fast or slow songs depending on the time of the year.

Pouring the Water and Wine

When the priest pours the wine into chalice and adds a few drops of water during the preparation of the gifts, it is symbolising Jesus as the wine; our saviour with a godly nature, and us as the water; small compared to godly power and love of Jesus.

A Community Gathering

The people attending church will greet, talk and catch up with the people around them before the Mass begines.

The Assembly Responding

The liturgical ministers and all those attending the liturgy join in the songs, prayers and reponces to the Priest. We speak together to remind us that we are one, by the bond of God, when we gather together.

Sanctuary Bells

The Sanctuary Bells are rung by the alter servers throughout importent parts of the Mass, to remind us it is an importent and significant part of the Mass.

Breaking the Bread

The bread is carried out as a sign of peace, and the priest breaks the bread to resemble Jesus breaking his own break at The Last Supper. Whilst the break is being broken, the people attending church sing or speak 'The Lamb of God', before those who have received communion are given the bread from the ministers.
