Liturgical Seasons and Colours In Mass
There are many colours worn and decorated through out the Church at different times of the Year or different celebrations.
White/Gold
White or gold is wore by the Priest or used for decoration during Christmas celebrations, major feast days, Easter celebrations and on the Solemnitties. It is a festive and joyful colour, and so is used on these joyful times.
Purple/Violet
Purple or Violet is worn by the Priest or used for decoration during the seasons of Advent and Lent. It is a symbol of humbleness and represents regret, sorrow and forgivness.
Green
Green is worn by the Priest and used for decoration mostly during 'Ordinary Time', which is when there is no special celebrations. It is a sign of Hope, Growth and Life.
Red
Red is worn by the Priest and used for decoration during Palm Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, Celebrations of the Sacrament of Confirmation and feast days of Martyrs. The red colour symbolises blood and fire, and is associated with Martyrs.
Rose Pink
Rose pink is an optional colour, but may be worn by the Priest or and used for decoration during the third Sunday of Advent and the Fourth Sunday of Lent. The colour helps to soften the sorrowful tone of the seasons it is worn in.
